JOB SUMMARY:     Provides first line support of users requiring assistance with information technology and software issues with a virtual desktop environment.  Perform a variety of complex and highly technical jobs to include virtual servers and local area networks.    


  • Assist staff with the installation, configuration, and ongoing usability of desktop computers, peripheral equipment and software applications
  • Answer help desk phone calls and emails; assist end-users with hardware and software problems
  • Receive assets, move equipment within and/or between facilities, execute equipment replacement activity and update asset management system to reflect work performed
  • Perform minor desktop hardware repair for PC computer equipment and peripherals that are not covered by vendor maintenance agreements Monitor, verify and report employee non-compliance to policy and procedures.
  • Test and install OS and software updates/upgrades in a virtual environment.
  • Maintain hardware inventory.
  • Coordinate with vendors providing warranty repairs.
  • Coordinate timely repair of PC equipment covered by maintenance agreements
  • Help install local area network cabling systems and equipment such as network interface cards, hubs and switches
  • Create and disable virtual network user accounts; perform password re-sets
  • Participate in the on-call rotation for after hours and weekend support
  • Provide set-up and take-down of projectors and laptops at special meetings as needed
  • Train and orient users on use of hardware and software
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two-year's experience and/or training in configuring, installing and supporting personal computers, network operating systems and associated automation applications
  • Technical certification or vocational training in the installation and maintenance of PC's in a network a plus but not required
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver License



  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and other related software
  • Knowledge of computer operating systems and programs
  • Sill in computer networking
  • Skill in troubleshooting and problem solving of hardware and software issues
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Skill in managing multiple projects and assignments simultaneously 
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Ability to instruct other on basic operations of resources
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair all types of hardware and software


  • The Information Systems Manager assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.


  • Guidelines include city and department policies and procedures, licensing agreements, and manufacturer's operations and maintenance manuals. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.


  • The work consists of varied technical duties. Rapidly changing technology contributes to the complexity of the position.


  • The purpose of this position is to provide training and end-user support to city personnel. Success in this position results in the increased proficiency of employee information technology usage


  • Contacts are typically with Vendors, Department Heads, and Employees.


  • Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, and to provide services
