JOB SUMMARY:     Provides engineering support to the Public Works Department while also providing support to other City departments.  Position requires high use of AutoCAD Civil 3D to create drawings for Engineering staff.  Additionally performs fieldwork for research and construction project management.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Prepare drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Assist in planning, managing, coordinating, and overseeing engineering design and construction projects.
  • Review construction projects to ensure compliance with construction specifications, plans, and federal, state, and city codes, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Perform field surveys and investigations, gathering topographic information necessary for the preparation of base plan sheets and construction drawings.
  • Research Tulsa County and Osage County Clerk's Office for land records.
  • Prepare agenda items for City Council meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Class D Oklahoma Driver License
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • 2 or more years' experience in a related field
  • 6 or more months' experience with people and/or project management

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in Municipal Utilities

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY POSITION:

  • Knowledge of personnel laws, policies, and regulations
  • Knowledge of relevant city, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies
  • Knowledge of civil engineering and construction practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
  • Skill in the use of computers and various software programs
  • Skill in the training and supervision of personnel
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Ability to establish and meet deadlines
  • Ability to develop and review plans and specifications for municipal capital improvement projects

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:

  • The City Engineer assigns work in terms of division goals and objectives.  The supervisor reviews work through conferences, reports, and observation of division activities.

GUIDELINES:

  • Guidelines include procurement laws, personnel policies, city and department policies and procedures, and local, state, and federal laws relevant to municipal operations.  These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY:

  • The work consists of varied management and administrative duties.  The need to coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies contributes to the complexity of the position.

SCOPE AND EFFECT:

  • The purpose of this position is to provide engineering support to the department.  Successful performance helps ensure the completion of municipal projects.
